Description

MHFA for the Suicidal Person Course

The 4-hour stand alone Mental Health First Aid for the Suicidal Person Course is based on the revised Mental Health First Aid Guidelines for Suicidal Thoughts and Behaviours and is specifically designed to assist a person who is having suicidal thoughts. This course was launched on World Mental Health Day 10th October 2016.

A national survey of Australians aged 16-85 found that 3.2% had attempted suicide at some time in their life and 0.4% had attempted suicide in the past year. Males account for 75% of suicide and 87% of people who die by suicide have a diagnosable mental illness at the time of death.

Among 15-24 year olds, suicide is the single most common cause of death. Another study found the 7.5% of 12-17 year olds had seriously considered attempting suicide in the past year and 2. 4% had made a suicide attempt over this period.

However, suicide can be prevented. Most suicidal people do not want to die. The simply do not want to live with the pain they are experiencing right now. Openly talking about suicidal thoughts and feelings can save a life.

But is your workplace ready? Would your people know what to look for? Are they familiar with the Warning Signs?

This interactive workshop, could assist your workplace by providing your workforce with the skills needed to help someone who finds themselves in this situation.
